This November approximately twenty EPICS students travelled to ASU's Barrett Honors College to present proposals for their engineering projects. The engineering teams included the Workbench teams, the Weldon House Kitchen Remodel team, the Energy Audit team, the Rube Goldberg Machine team, and the Green Wall team. Also present were three AP Environmental Science teams who presented their Rio Salado Habitat Restoration projects. The groups presented to a panel of ASU Engineering students, who graciously granted extra money from the ASU budgets to the various projects. Big winners of the night were the Workbench and the Environmental Science teams who garnered a thousand dollars and eight hundred dollars respectively. We are very proud of all the students.
This December ISE students gathered after school to continue a fun and fierce competition started last year: the Gingerbread House contest. Teams had thirty minutes and limited materials to come up with creative houses that were not only Christmas-themed but structurally sound. Entries ranged from the "Santa on the Go" mobile home to the "Surfin' Santa" tropical-themed island complete with graham cracker sand. Guest judges walked around the room as students explained their designs, and ultimately three teams were deemed the champions. Congratulations to all the girls who participated, the designs were entertaining and fun for all.
